Farmers in England will be paid for restoring biodiversity from 2023

Farmers will be paid for actions that biodiversity in the Local Nature Recovery scheme, it was announced by the Department for Food, the Environment and Rural Affairs (Defra) on 6th January 2022.

Activities that have been approved for this scheme include tree planting, hedgerow planting, wildgrass creation and meadow creation.

Peatland and wetland restoration are also included in this scheme.

The Local Nature Recovery scheme will contribute to the Agriculture Bill’s promise – to prevent farmers from being financially incentivised into overproduction at the expense of the local environment.
